Prompt order matters in Midjourney

Words near the front carry more weight. A reliable order is: subject, then wardrobe and pose, then scene, then lighting, then camera and lens, then grade and style, then parameters. Put the thing you care about most first and keep every clause short.

The parameters worth knowing

• --ar sets the aspect ratio. 4:5 for portraits, 3:2 for editorial, 1:1 for product tiles, 16:9 for wide scenes.
• --stylize controls how much Midjourney applies its own aesthetic. Lower values stay closer to your description, which is what you want for photographic work.
• --no removes recurring artefacts. Keep it short and specific rather than a long list of everything you dislike.
• Reference images are placed at the start of the prompt and weighted separately; use them to hold an identity or an outfit while you change the scene.

Photographic language beats adjectives

“Beautiful”, “stunning” and “masterpiece” do very little. Concrete photographic terms do a lot: focal length, aperture, shot type, camera angle, light direction and quality, colour grade. Those are the same levers a photographer uses on set, and Midjourney has seen enough captioned photography to understand them.

Product and fashion shots

For product work the rules flip: the product is the hero, it must be sharp and fill a meaningful part of the frame, and the background must stay quiet. Name the product category, choose a shot type that suits it, and state explicitly that the background does not compete. Keep pose, model identity and scene description minimal so nothing pulls attention off the product.
